Today at school me and three of my classmates had to give a group presentation on Harry Potter. I was the only one in the group who has never read any of the books or seen any of the movies, the others were all Harry Potter Fans. But I did my segment on the ideodic conservative christians who want to ban Harry Potter because it supposedly promotes witchcraft and satanism. Here's a couple of quotes I used in my presentation:
"Harry Potter is saying you can dabble in witchcraft as long as it's entertaining. "If it's not good, it's evil. There ain't no in between. When you start dabbling in demonic spirits, that's dangerous ground. You're opening up your home, yourself to all kinds of attacks from the Devil."
- (TheTrouble with Harry Potter, By Julia Scheeres, Nov, 15, 2001)
“ We believe that Harry Potter Promotes sorcery, witchcraft-type things, the paranormal, things that are against God… That is really bad”.
- Rev. George Bender
Man, some people are just idiots.
Today I attended a conference put on by the Alberta Association of Library Technicians. I attended sessions on Graphic Novels, Social reaponsibility in Librarianship (which was really interesting), and a professional pathway panel in which several library professionals talked about what their organizations are looking for in potential employees.
Over the lunch hour today I caught a talk at my school by sex therapist Sue Johanson. Wow, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time, she's hilarious. Among other things she talked about masterbating babies, "packing the fudge", and various sex toys.
When I'm walkin' these streets
And I'm countin' my steps
And I'm draggin' my feet
'Cause I ain't ready yet
To start all over again
'Cause every time that I do
I remember you
Well, you broke my heart
And it healed alright
Now we're far apart
And I don't lie awake at night
But every once in a while
Right out of the blue
I remember you
Well, you never write and I never call
And I don't miss you tonight
I'm just curious, that's all
Do you still have dreams?
Did they all come true?
Does it ever seem like you'll never make it through?
And do you ever miss me the way that I do
When I remember you?
When I'm walkin' these streets
Well, you broke my heart
And I'm countin' my steps
But it healed alright
And I'm draggin' my feet
Now we're far apart
'Cause I ain't ready yet
Every once in a while
Right out of the blue
I remember you
I remember you
